DIY Gold Flecked Phone Case | Common Sparrows

I got a phone case for free, but it looked kinda bleh. I dressed it up by painting it white and adding diy gold flecks. Learn how to make your own gold flecks for your phone case with the tutorial below. (Not really interested in making your own gold flecks? Buy some here.)

Materials

1 This phone case was a gift from someone (who also got it for free). No way would I buy a $50 phone case just to paint it.

2 The number of containers you need depends on how many flecks you want. I’ll explain more in step one. (again, you could also just buy gold flecks.)

3 Pictured are old hair scissors… I couldn’t find my normal scissors.

Step One

Pour the gold paint into the plastic cup(s)4. You’ll want enough to cover the sides cup, but not so much that it will take forever to dry. Swirl the cup around so the paint cover the sides. Let dry.

4 If you want, you can paint more than one cup at a time. The more cups you make, the more gold flecks you can have. (You can also use the same cup over and over.)

Step Two

While the gold paint is drying, paint the case white5 with a sponge brush 6.

5Make sure no tiny hole, pocket, etc. gets sealed by the paint.

6A bristle brush left unwanted paint strokes.

Step Three

Once dry, peel the paint from the cup.

Step Four

Cut the paint into flecks. (I made vertical slits then cut horizontally.)

Step Five

Cover the phone case with mod podge and sprinkle the flecks onto the case. Once dry, seal with mod podge.
