DIY Paper Vase | Common Sparrows

Craft yourself an easy and unique vase made entirely out of paper.

Like the laundry bag diy, this project was inspired by a long gone Urban Outfitters product. Paper, scissors, and glue are all you need to make this vase, but I used a tape measurer and ruler for more specific measurements.

(Toilet paper rolls are the perfect vessel for dried or fake flowers, just make sure the weight is balanced by stuffing some old newspaper down the tube.)

Materials

  • Paper

  • Vessel (Juice Glass, Toilet Paper Roll, etc)

  • Pencil

  • Ruler
  • Tape Measure

  • Scissors

  • Glue Stick

Step One

Pick two sheets of paper for each vase. I used heavyweight paper for painting, but any type of paper will work.

Step Two

On the back of one of your sheets, draw a straight line vertically down the middle.

Step Three

With the measuring tape, measure the circumference of your vessel (mine was 7 inches), and divide that measurement by 4 (mine: 1.75 inches).

Step Four

Take the final measurement from step 3 (mine: 1.75 inches), and draw a straight vertical line that far away from the center line.

Step Five

On the second line, mark the height of your vessel. You can make your vase as tall as you’d like, but don’t make it any shorter than your vessel.

Step Six

Draw the silhouette of your vase a little ways away from the second line. If you draw the silhouette too close to the line, it’ll make it more difficult to cover the vessel with the paper vase.

Step Seven

Stack sheets on top of each other with the patterned/designed sides facing each other.

Step Eight

With the pages stacked, bend both sheets down the template’s center line. Be careful not to crease the paper.

Step Nine

Cut along the silhouette of your vase.

Step Eleven

With the patterend/designed sides facing outward, glue the edges of the sides together – not the top or bottom.

Step Twelve

Slide the finished paper vase over your vessel.

  1. Love this, really wonderful! I remember that Urban Outfitters product, well I remembered there was a product like that but not who sold it, and so happy you’ve reintroduced the idea. Great to “meet” you and hope you’ll be back to Craft Schooling sunday, thanks so much for sharing
